WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NATURAL, ORGANIC AND CERTIFIED ORGANIC?

Many brands make organic claims but in reality very few would ever meet the rigorous standards of certification.

In the cosmetics and personal care industry use of the words “natural” and “organic” abounds. The cosmetic industry’s definition of “natural” is “any ingredient derived from a natural substance” - but some natural substances require the use of carcinogenic synthetic chemicals to extract the ingredient for use. Similarly the cosmetic industry defines “Organic” as anything containing carbon. Carbon is found in anything that ever lived.. so you could argue that crude oil is organic..so too the toxic petrochemical preservative “methyl paraben”.

Quite simply just because something is labelled natural and organic is not necessarily a guarantee it is good for you. In most countries at present there are no laws to restrict the use of these words on personal care products, meaning that anyone can call his or her product “organic” without legal consequence.

However, the term “Certified Organic” helps cut through the confusion. Every ingredient within a certified organic product must be grown, processed, produced and stored without the use of pesticides, fertilisers and synthetic chemicals. Certified organic products must be completely free from genetically modified ingredients, petrochemicals, sulphates and parabens. The production process is strictly audited by an independent third party to ensure the products conform to the most stringent of international standards.

Without certification an organic claim can be pretty meaningless. Only by searching for certified organic products can you be sure of the organic authenticity and integrity of every ingredient in a product.

Our organic certification is what sets miniOrganics apart from most other brands. It is our guarantee of quality, purity and safety for you and your family.

IT’S TIME TO PROTECT BABIES FROM DANGEROUS PRODUCTS

From shortly after birth, mothers tenderly wash and pamper their infants with a wide range of baby products. These include soaps, shampoos, lotions, and dusting powders, some of which are used several times daily.

However, how would these mothers react if they discovered that these products contain a witches brew of dangerous ingredients? Hopping mad could be a reasonable understatement.

Most disturbing are three groups of widely used ingredients known as “hidden carcinogens” -- ingredients which are contaminated by carcinogens, or which break down to release carcinogens, or which are precursors of carcinogens--to which infants are about 100 times more sensitive than adults.
